THE PRIORY FACTION STARTER SET

Knowledge is power, so the saying goes. For the Priory adepts, this is a literal truth as they have been taking care of the Mythos for generations. It is the power by which humanity will be saved from the predatory attacks of the Ancients.

Over the millennia, shamans, soothsayers, bards and scholars have possessed the keys to Mythos' power but were unaware of its greater purpose. Those lucky few used it sparingly and barely glanced behind the curtain to keep their sanity. As humanity became more and more arrogant in its manifest destiny, this precious knowledge of Mythos was discarded in favor of technology and that illusion of security created by our increasingly modern world. Thus the Priory was commissioned by the mysterious Madame Adrestia to remember the ancient dangers that still lurk in the shadows and to fight them when necessary.

The Priory is an ancient institution with its members operating all over the world in autonomous groups characterized by mobility called Cells. The contact between the various Cells is practically non-existent and the membership and recruitment of each Cell is the responsibility of each Cell Head. Professor Zachary Lazarus has been leading his Cell for over a decade. Expert in the arcane and the occult, it is Lazarus who receives the calls from the enigmatic Madame Adrestia, to plan the next mission of the Lazarus Cell. Lazarus has a formidable will and a taste clearly of Bohemian origin, and he is often found talking extremely seriously with his cat Zeus. The most curious thing is that the animal seems to clearly understand what the Professor says and often carries out infiltration and observation actions for the Priory.

Anarchist-archaeologist Abigail Halsey is an invaluable member of the Lazarus cell, and her discoveries and research are often critical to overcoming many of the challenges they face. It was Abigail who discovered the diary of Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel and the secrets of Mythos for the creation of the Golem Maharal. This fifteen-foot-tall animated clay monstrosity provides the muscle for the Lazarus cell on their quests. What Maharal lacks in subtlety it more than makes up for in brute strength!

Bertie Smythe was a decorated pilot on the Western Front when a dawn meeting in the clouds left him a changed man. He will not speak of what he saw early that morning, nor of the fate of his squadron. Holding a flamethrower, it is with very strong liquor and endless cigarettes that fuels his determination to correct this unspoken injustice. Weapons like Bertie's require constant maintenance, as do much of the Cell's equipment. Fortunately, they can rely on the talented mechanic Kitty Page, the Cell's newest recruit. Kitty joined the Cell after their mission to Providence against the followers of the Path of Chronozon. While they still have much to learn in their war against the mighty fallen, Kitty is comforted that their deadly adversaries appear to be as vulnerable to bullets and flames as anyone else in the Cell, except Maharal, of course.
